I tried belly dancing for a bit. I really enjoyed it, but I am terrible at it. I'm not a bad dancer so much, it's just that I can't improvise to save my life! I performed a few times with a troop doing all choreographed stuff and did okay, I just failed miserably when it came time to make stuff up on the spot. Sigh....
Anyway, I love love love the look of tribal fusion belly dance costumes. If I could get away with it, I would probably dress like that all the time. I also love stuff I can stick on my head. I decided I could maybe get away with a set of cowrie shell falls for everyday wear. So here they are! I went with a soft brown yarn to blend i with my hair (and because it's what I had handy).
I found a tutorial on TribalBellyDance.org by Bellygoddess. It provides lots of great pictures and instructions. All in all these were pretty easy and quick to make. I plan on making a much fancy pair and maybe a few matching adornments. There's still lots of space on my head.
Bellygoddess's tutorial can be found here! There's another tutorial on their resource page that I plan on trying out too.
